ENCAMPMENTS at CHATHAM from 1756 to 1762

A list of the encamped regiments at Chatham, 1762. Accompanies the map of the encampment on the facing page (RCIN 731068.s).

The camp took place in exactly the same location in each year from 1756 to 1762, the duration of the Seven Years War for England. In 1756, from 19 June to 12 October, the encamped regiments, under the command of Major-General Lord George Sackville, were: 5^th Bentinck's; 25^th Homes's; 30^th Loudon's; 36^th Lord Robert Manners's; and 37^th Stewart's. In 1757 the encamped regiments, from 27 June to 25 September, under the command of Major-General Lord George Sackville, were: 23^rd Royal Wesh Fuziliers; 25^th Homes's; 50^th Hodgson's; 51^st Brudenell's. In 1758 from 28 June to 7 November the encamped regiments, under the command of the Earl of Panmure, were: 37^th Stewart's; 58^th Armiger's; 61^st G. Grey's. In 1759, from 15 June to 7 November, the encamped regiments, under the command of Lieutenant-General Campbell, were: 30^th Loudon's; 36^th Lord Robert Manners's; 50^th Hodgson's; 11^th Bocland's. In 1760 the encamped regiments, under the command of Major-General Carr, were: 9^th Whitmore's; 61^st G. Grey's. In 1761 the encamped regiments under the command of Lieutenant-General Kingsley, were: Cheshire, and Huntingdonshire. In 1762, the encamped regiments under the command of Lieutenant-General Kingsley, were 21^st Panmure;s; Cornish; Dorsetshire.
