The encampments are on the east side of the River Escaut (Scheldt), near Oudenaarde (50°51'06"N 03°36'32"E), between Mulde (Melden, 50°48'52"N 03°33'55"E) in the south and Gavere (50°55'45"N 03°39'42") in the north. The fortified lines at the bridgehead at Gavere are shown, together with the extent of woodland. The marshy inundations south of Oudenaarde are indicated by a bluish brown wash.
